The 17-year-old victim was riding a motorscooter when six to eight masked suspects tried to steal it from him shortly after midnight, authorities said.
They failed to take the victim's scooter but shot him in the left leg on the 900 block of Federal Street, according to police. The suspects were also on scooters when they fled the scene, authorities added.
The victim was taken to Jefferson University Hospital and placed in stable condition. No weapons were recovered and no arrests have been made as of midday Wednesday, police said.
The investigation is ongoing.
